Spring has finally arrived and with the end of the harsh winter weather, it’s time to do some Spring cleaning. Spring cleaning can help improve your property, increase retention, and help attract new renters. So it’s a great idea to get your staff together and plan your Spring cleaning. Here are some things to consider add to your Spring cleaning list:

Clean All The Common Areas

During the winter people typically spend more time indoors, so things can get really dirty in the common areas. Consider shampooing all the carpet in the common areas to clean up any dirt and mud that may have been tracked in. Also, wash any windows, clean the furniture, dust the light fixtures, and anything else that needs sprucing. This is also a great time to check all the furniture and appliances in common areas to make sure they don’t need repair.

Clean Up Your Landscaping

The exterior of your property is as important as the interior when it comes to attracting new renters. So take some time to clean up all the landscaping around your property including removing the debris from your garden beds, sweeping the sand and salt off your sidewalks and parking lot, and cleaning out your gutters. This is also a great time to plan some new additions to your landscaping, so keep those in mind while you are picking up.

Clean Up Your Pool Or Hot Tub:

If you have a pool or a hot tub on site, Spring is the perfect time to clean it out and prepare the water for summer pool opening. Make sure you call a pool professional to clean the filters, the water, and make sure the chlorine balance is perfect. Also make sure to clean off the deck and check the fence, furniture, and any changing or restroom areas.

Do Some Basic Indoor Maintenance

Beyond cleaning, make sure to take the time to do some basic indoor maintenance. Replace your air filters, check all the batteries on your smoke alarms, and test your air conditioning system to make sure there are not any issues. Also check all the caulking and seals around windows and doors which can get damaged in winter. Finally, check and change any light bulbs that need replacing.

If you follow these basic tips and make sure that your property is fresh and clean, you’ll attract more residents come the busy Spring rental season. These things are pretty simple and can be done as soon as the weather turns nice. So make sure you get everyone on board and get to cleaning!
