In managing a community, a healthy work/life balance is something that is sorely needed but not often achieved. At Occupancy Solutions, we want to present a few ideas that will allow you to improve the work/life balance for you and your team, as we believe that through this balance you’ll be able to find yourself to be an even a better manager as well as team leader. Creating this ideal work/life balance is far from impossible, and all it will require is a bit of creative planning on your part. Some ideas on building a better balance are:

  • Make sure you have backup – Backup will allow you to take the personal time you need without worrying about everything that’s not getting done. What this means is allowing your team to take over from time to time, and trusting that they will be able to handle any problems or concerns that may be thrown their way. Also, it’s important to vary your backup as well, so your team doesn’t get burned out during their times of taking the reins.
  • Stick to your schedule – Sometimes it’s easy to forget just how important personal time is, and this will cause you to prioritize your tasks over your schedule as you disallow yourself the downtime you need to stay fresh. With your team and backup in place, make sure you plan a nice even schedule of work time and down time, and remind yourself that your schedule and sticking to it is your true priority!
  • Prioritize emergencies – Sometimes emergencies are emergencies, and other times perceived emergencies can actually wait a little while. If you’re enjoying your downtime and find that a resident calls to inform you of a small faucet drip, this is something that can wait a day, but a burst pipe may be a more pressing matter that requires your immediate attention.
  • Vary your team schedule – Planning your team’s schedule to provide equal working and relaxing time can also help to keep your team happy in their own work/life balance as well. Along with this, when you’re designating your backup person during your own downtime, make sure you have a couple of different trustworthy team members to split up the responsibility.

An equal mix of downtime and work time can make you the best community manager, and community management team, you can be. To learn more about working on your own work/life balance for you and your team, simply check us out at OccupancySolutions.com today.
