Facebook is a great tool for your business. If you plan on using it to promote your business, there are a few tips and tricks that you should know about. Check out this list of ten tips to get you started.

1.    Make a business page, not a profile page. A business page allows people to “like” your business rather than have to “friend” you on Facebook. This is a better way for people to connect with you and you can still keep your personal profile separate from your business page. Facebook requires business to have a business page rather than a profile, or else you might find your profile page deleted and you could even land in Facebook Jail.

2.    Make sure your security settings are set fairly high on your personal profile page. You want to be sure that the people who are connecting with you through your business page are only seeing professional posts. You don’t want them seeing all the photos of your family picnic or your kids.

3.    Once you’ve created your business page, use the Suggest To Friends option to share it with your friends and family. You can ask some of your close friends to suggest your page to some of their friends as well, increasing your reach. When someone likes your business page, it will appear in their friends’ news feeds, which will also increase your reach.

4.    Share information about local events, open houses, community newsletters, and any other relevant information for your area. Keep people wanting to come back and check out your page so that they keep thinking about your business and what you are doing.

5.    Link your website to your Facebook business page. Make it easy for your potential customers to access your website through your Facebook page. Make a post with your website in your news feed once in awhile to keep it fresh and keep your web page coming up in Google’s search results.

6.    Tell everyone you have a Facebook page. Post flyers around your building, hand out buttons, get the word out!

7.    Connect with other local businesses on Facebook. Comment on their posts and like their pages and they will do the same for you. Make sure your comments are positive and encouraging and shine good light on your business. Do not get involved in any touchy posts that might turn bad.

8.    Create events and invite members of the local community. Host a food drive, throw a block party, or arrange a movie night. An event from your business page will draw attention. People can put that they are Interested in your event, which will lead to more people being interested in your event. You might be surprised at the work Facebook can do for you.

9.    Encourage feedback from residents and other members of your page. Make polls to ask questions from your followers. You can learn a lot by asking questions and really listening to the answers.

10.    Get your staff involved too! If you are the only one posting to your page, your audience might get sick of your ideas. Let your staff make up guest posts once in awhile. It will keep things fresh and you may also learn something. Just be sure that you tell them what is ok to post before you hand them the reins and review their post as soon as it goes up, or even before it goes up if that is possible.
