When trying to sell your property to a potential buyer, there are many things to take into account. One of them may be the potential buyer’s age. It is important not to be biased against different age groups. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Questions

Chances are, buyers from different generations are going to ask different types of questions when coming to learn about a potential property. They may have different backgrounds and different ideas, so it is important to be ready to answer a wide variety of questions.

Patience

Have patience and take the time to listen to your buyer’s concerns. Some may seem unreasonable to you, but there is a reason they are asking the questions. If you just dismiss them as silly or irrelevant, your buyer may pick up on this and it may become a red flag for them. If you are patient and take the time to answer all their questions, they will be more likely to trust you and your answers.

Kindness

With patience, also have kindness. If it is an older generation looking for a place with more bedrooms, ask about their family situation. They may like the personal touches you add to the conversation and will be more likely to bond with you. Don't’ roll your eyes or respond with sarcastic comments. That will get you nowhere very quickly.

Find Unique Solutions

Some questions might not have straightforward answers. Find a unique solution to the problem that leaves them with an answer. See if there is a way to work the numbers so that you can handle their budget. Maybe you can suggest someone to help with snow in the winter or mowing in the summer if that is something you don’t provide. Don’t be afraid to say, “I don’t know, but let me get back to you. “ Just be sure you write down their question and then follow up with a real answer that you’ve researched. And don’t wait too long to get the answer or they may have already moved on.

Different generations of buyers will be looking for different things. Be sure to get their back story and offer as much help as you can. You can’t always make a situation work, but just responding with kindness and patience and as much knowledge as you can will help them feel like they are making an informed decision.
