Summer days bring with them lots of fun, but they can also invite trouble to the neighborhood. Kids are sometimes looking for things to do, and might not always make the right decisions. It is important to keep your security tight during the relaxed summer months to avoid welcoming any bad decisions to your property or buildings.

Lighting

Make sure areas are well lit around your property. Don’t leave any dark corners for prowlers to hang out. This doesn’t mean you have to put spotlights in every corner of every building. Making lights on a motion sensor will activate them if someone comes walking by the area, alerting other residents that someone is there. Replace burned out lightbulbs right away, and inspect lights frequently to make sure they are in working order.

Assigned Parking Spots

Give each resident an assigned spot to park their car. This will cut down on any extra vehicles being parked all over the property. If residents have guests, you can either have an assigned parking area for guests, or have them check in at the front office to get a parking pass for the day. That way you can easily identify cars that don’t belong on your property and work to get rid of them.

Replace Broken Windows

apartments. Or if not people, then bugs at night. Replacing the windows will lead to tighter security.

Watch For Signs Of Vandalism

Frequently inspect your property for signs of vandalism. If you have one side of a building that is constantly getting hit by graffiti, you might want to think about setting up a camera to catch them in action. Having video proof to show the local police will put the story in your favor and may lead to a conviction if you decide to press charges.

Hire A Security Guard

Depending on your budget, you may want to think about hiring a security guard for your property. He or she can work the whole day, or just at night to help keep your residents feeling safe. Feeling safe is another way to attract new residents to your property as well, so it’s a win-win situation for everyone.
