Effective follow up is the key to making a sale. Customers appreciate the extra effort that goes into your follow ups and they are more likely to respond if they know you are truly interested in their business. Here are a few tips for making sure that your follow ups are well received and working the way you intended.

Schedule A Date

Do you have someone who has contacted you for information? If they have been asking lots of questions but not really committing to anything, offer them a date. Pick a time to meet up and talk face-to-face so that you can follow up with them about all the information you have passed on. If you just let the emails and the phone calls keep flying back and forth, you may not be able to pinpoint exactly why they are asking all these questions.

Time Your Follow Ups

Don’t bombard your potential customer with tons of phone calls and emails. Make a strategy that involves a few days in between contact. If you overwhelm them with too many follow ups they are going to just run the other direction. Make them understand that you are interested in doing business with them and would like an answer, but also that you are not pressuring them into making a decision. You just want the opportunity to understand if they are truly interested or not so you can work on closing the deal or moving on to a new prospect.

Get An App That Tracks Emails

There are a couple of great browser extensions and apps that help you see when people have opened your emails. If you can see when and if people are opening your emails, you will have a better idea of how to take action. If someone is just not seeing your emails and not opening them at all, you might try picking up the phone instead. If they are opening your emails, you can probably guess that they are not interested in what you have to say, or they have opened it, read it, and forgotten to respond to you. In this case, you can ask for a more direct answer.
