Do you have families living in your properties? You may be part of the back to school madness without even realizing it. The beginning of the school year can bring a lot of changes from the easy, laid back summer. One of these may be kids waiting at the bus stop in the morning. Let’s take a look at a few safety tips to keep everyone safe while waiting for the bus.

Designate A Spot

Make a spot where kids can wait for the bus safely. Make the area clearly marked or fairly obvious to people passing by. Post signs that ask cars in your lot to drive slowly when approaching the bus stop. Kids can be unpredictable, so it is best to have everyone alerted that there may be increased activity in that area at certain times of the day.

Add A Bench

Adding a bench to the bus stop gives kids a clear place to wait without bouncing around in the road. HAving kids all over the place at the end of a driveway or by a main road can be a real liability. Putting a bench near the edge of the property where they can sit safely but still see the bus coming is a great way to encourage them to stay back from the road.

Weather Shelter

It you live in an area where weather can be a problem, you can also build a small shelter from the weather. Depending on how many kids you have waiting at the bus stop, you can just build a small covering or a larger one. A roof to protect from rain or snow and three walls to protect from cold winds in the winter is a nice gesture to show that you are thinking about everyone in the family when it comes time to go back to school.

Know The Bus Route

Check the local paper to see when the bus will be stopping at your property. If a resident asks you for that information, you will want to have it handy. You may even want to cut the bus schedule out of the paper and hang it somewhere, or call the local school and ask for a copy. This is a great way to show the families that you are thinking about them and their needs.

Publish In The Newsletter

If you send out a newsletter to your residents, be sure to publicize that kids may be standing out at the bottom of the road waiting for the bus. The more that people know and are aware that there may now be kids standing out near traffic, the more they can be prepared and operate their vehicles safely.
