Building a community spirit is incredibly important to resident retention, but how can a management team go about building that community spirit in a way that is organic, genuine, and unforced? There are a number of avenues you can take to take your sense of community to the next level. 5 ways to build community spirit organically are:

1.    Take it to social media – Social media can be a huge help in building community spirit. You can advertise community events and committees on your chosen platform, you can bring residents together, and you can make yourself available for open communication. Building a social media presence and advertising that presence to residents in order to encourage them to get involved is a great way to build a foundation for a great sense of community spirit.

2.    Bring everyone together – Hosting a community event like a residents’ day or a neighborhood wide barbecue gets everyone mingling and getting to know one another, and helps you to build a true sense of community organically. Making this a seasonal event where everyone can get in on the fun is even better.

3.    Create a community goal and focus on it – What do you want out of your community spirit? Do you want a community who cares? One who likes to have fun? One that is involved with the community as a whole? Formulate your vision and place your focus there when building your social media presence, your community events, your newsletters, and all situations where the community is encouraged to get together.

4.    Encourage involvement – If there is a community planting project going on in spring, encourage the community to get out and get their hands dirty. Make it a fun opportunity to make the community better together, and offer refreshments that get people having fun while also making their community a better place.

5.    Make your brand strong – A strong and united community brand makes people want to be a part of something even more. Making your community brand even stronger puts a face to your community, and gives residents a symbol they can be proud to represent.

positive community feel.
